Hokkaido Backcountry Heli-skiing

Have you ever considered heli-skiing in Japan? There are far fewer options than you may think but last week we were lucky enough to get the call from Hokkaido Backcountry Club and be invited up in the helicopter in what is their inaugural season operating heli-skiing in the Hokkaido Backcountry. HBC is a club that offers an unparalleled line of services for skiers and snowboarders wanting to experience Hokkaido’s true potential. Check out this video to get a sense of what was a truly fantastic day.

Hokkaido Backcountry Club’s helicopter provides thrilling access to an exclusive area while, with Inada-san behind the controls, you always feel like you’re in safe hands. The helicopter takes you to the top of Shiribestu-dake – very close to Rusutsu and only 40 minutes by car from Niseko – and the amazing terrain is steep and suitable for intermediate and advanced skiers and snowboarders. Heli-skiing with HBC is very highly recommended and something we will definitely be doing again!

Japan Journals x Burton Snowboards

Check out this sweet collaboration between Burton Snowboards and Japan Journals.

Three Burton snowboarders, Connor Harding, Roland Morley Brown and Nick Brown, travelled around the country for 7 weeks to bring you Japan Journals through blizzards and long days driving. They survived on canned coffee and a diet of the finest foods that Seico Mart has to offer, getting a taste of the landscape, culture and large amounts of powder in the process. Footage comes from Minakami, Nozawa onsen, Niseko and all the way up to Wakanai.

Did you ski or snowboard in Japan last season? Getting powder withdrawal symptoms yet?! What were your highlights? Tell us about your experiences.

What A Nighter!

When it dumps 30+ centimeters in 3 hours as it did on the afternoon of the 25 February it is time to down tools, get up on the mountain and enjoy the deep stuff. That’s exactly what Glen from 360niseko did.

It is incredible to be able to snowboard and ski at full speed under the lifts at night and experience bottomless turns. Check out the epic footage now!

Are you in Niseko at the moment or have you already been? How are you enjoying the awesome snow conditions this season?

Point and Shoot: Japan 2012

Point and Shoot: Japan 2012 is a mash up of footage from Nimbus Independent that didn’t make the final cut while editing for their epic En Route Hokkaido film. Too many good ski shots and hilarious moments to let go to waste. Enjoy.
